Ms. Sepal Mae Mathis DeBerry, 96, of Murfreesboro passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Stones River Manor. Born in Cannon Co., she was the daughter of the late Floyd Mathis and Sepal Arnett Mathis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved stepmother, Mamie Harrell Mathis who raised her; her husband, Lonnie DeBerry; her devoted son, Gary DeBerry and her sister, Charlene Rigney.
She is survived by her son, Norris and Karen DeBerry of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Shannon (Korie) DeBerry, Brian (Ashley) DeBerry, Laura (Chad) Thornsbrough, Jason (Brook) DeBerry, Amanda (Grant) Rathe and April (Jordan) Pack; great grandchildren, Logan (Kelley), Hunter, Luke, Delaney, Mason, Abby, Elora, Garrison, Beau, Anna, Jack, Sara, Eli and Molly, Miles and Lance; 2 great great grandchildren, Leighton, Weston, Abel and Hendryx; siblings, Lynwood (Carol) Mathis, Cordell Mathis, Rachel Stafford, Era Kay (Joel) Neely.
Ms. Sepal, the longest-serving member of the Walter Hill Church of Christ, was retired from General Electric and dedicated her time to homemaking. She found joy in cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening, and tending to her flowers. The picture of “The Virtuous Woman”, Ms. DeBerry loved her family and her church family. A truly gentle-hearted and grace filled soul, she showed kindness and love to everyone. In a world that often moves too quicky, she stood out as a rare example of grace, humility and unwavering kindness, she gave a love that had a lasting impression to everyone who was fortunate to know her.
The DeBerry family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 15, 2026 beginning at 10:00 A.M. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with her son, Norris DeBerry, officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Murfreesboro, Tn.
