The student body of Cannon County High School and several others gathered at Robert A. Harris Gymnasium on Sept. 11 for the American Legion Post 279's Patriot Day Ceremony.
It was a time to reflect back on the terrorist attacks which happened on September 11, 2001 and to pay tribute to the military and first responders not only of the nation but of the local community as well.
Many of the students at the high school were either toddlers or hadn't been born yet when the attack took place. State Representative Mark Pody was the special speaker for the program and the American Legion Post gave out several awards to Cannon County and Woodbury's first responders.
Those receiving awards included:
Robert Dewinter -- Woodbury Fire Department Dustin Pack -- Woodbury Police Department William Howard Blair Jr. -- Cannon County Sheriff's Department Chuck Holt -- Cannon County Rescue Squad Cory Ashford -- Gassaway Fire Department David Barrett -- Midway Fire Department Justin Harris -- EMA Director Charles Nokes -- Cannon County Ambulance Service Greta Stone -- Cannon County Ambulance Service Critical Care Paramedic.
