Cannon County was well represented at the 2018 National Junior Beta Club Convention in Savannah, Georgia. Beta members from all six elementary schools joined with almost 20,000 other Junior Beta Club members from 18 other states.

West side fifth-grade student Jon Hare, who was elected as the National Junior Beta Club Secretary at the 2017 National Junior Beta Club Convention in Orlando, Florida, was the first fourth grader in the nation elected to a national office. He joined other National Junior officers from other state presiding over sessions and presenting keynote speeches.

Woodland fourth-grader Ashton Witty submitted a picture that had placed third in the state at the State Junior Beta Club Convention last November. His picture competed against around 40 other pictures from the other 18 states. His picture placed sixth in the National Competition.

During the fifth and final session, which was presided over by Jon Hare, the Beta members were treated to an address from Mrs. Paula Deen. During her address, Mrs. Deen spoke about the important of having and following dreams. She also encouraged members to surround themselves with good influences and that goodness needed to be promoted. To that end, she posted a video on her Facebook page about the goodness of Beta along with her plaque she receive as an honorary Beta member. Jon Hare was also featured in this video.
