4th Annual History Hayride Set For Oct. 10
Reservations are now being taken for the 4th Annual History Hayride at Edgar Evins State Park, Silver Point, to take place the evening of Oct. 10th. The park is on Center Hill Lake and Reservoir, near Smithville. It is less than 5 miles south of I-40 at exit 268.

This is a family oriented ride back into the history of the DeKalb area and its folks, presented by the Friends of Edgar Evins State Park and loyal park employees. The wagons will make approximately 12 stops at scenes along the route through the park where volunteer reenactors dressed in period costumes will tell you about life in their times.

Some of the characters from past years have been James Edgar Evins, a local farmer, merchant and politician for whom the park was named; Adam Dale, the first white settler to the area; Mrs. Hooper Burton, a local rural school teacher; a construction worker from when the dam was being built, Mr. Hooper Burton,; lifelong resident and avid fox hunter, Luke Denney; a local moon shiner, Mrs. Kate Lafever; a local store owner, and many more.

Each year new characters are added as old characters are at least temporarily retired to keep the event fresh for those who attend every year. The entire trip takes about 1 ½ to 2 hours, with wagons leaving every 30 minutes from 3:30 through 7 PM.

Ticket price $10 per person. More information may be found on the Friends website: www.foeesp.ne1.net. For reservations call the park office at 1-800-250-8619 or 931-858-2114. This is a sell out every year so plan to reserve early. All profits from the hayride will remain in the park through the Friends of Edgar Evins State Park, Inc., a not-for-profit organization.

Light refreshments will be served at the covered picnic pavilions adjacent to the marina parking lot. This will also be the site for checking in and boarding the wagons.

Park employees drive the tow vehicles and work alongside Friends as traffic control, registration agents, and tour guides, to ensure the event goes smoothly. The hayride is also supported by personnel and equipment from several sister state parks.
