10 less people worked in county in May



The unemployment rate in Cannon County last month rose slightly from the previous month, according to data provided by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

The rate increased to 2.7 percent in May. April's rate was 2.5 percent.

The state data indicates Cannon County had a Labor Force of 6,340 for both months. There were 10 less working in May (6,170) than in April (6,180).

In May of 2017 the unemployment rate in the county was 3.8 percent. For most of the past year it has steadily decreased. The 2.5 percent rate in April was the lowest it has been in 50 years.

Across the state, unemployment rates in nearly every Tennessee county remained under 5 percent during May 2018.

Ninety-three of Tennessee's 95 counties recorded a rate in May that was less than 5 percent. Unemployment in two counties was 5 percent or greater during the time period.

Williamson County had the lowest unemployment in the state with a rate of 2.1 percent, which was 0.1 of a percentage point higher than it was in April.

At 2.2 percent, Davidson County followed with the second lowest rate in the state for May. That figure represented a 0.1 of a percentage point increase from the previous month.

The rates for both Williamson and Davidson Counties were 0.2 of a percentage point lower than the rates they recorded in May 2017.
