On Friday, March 30, 2012, Woodbury Police Sergeant Lowell Womack along with Chief Kevin Mooneyham made an arrest and recovered a large portion of items stolen from the Old Manchester Road and Rogers Street area on or about March 25.
After developing a suspect in the case, Sgt. Womack went to an address on Bryant Lane in Woodbury. Upon arriving at the Bryant Lane address, Sgt. Womack observed the suspect Kyle Ortkiese spray painting a car in the parking lot. Sgt. Womack then contacted dispatch to see if there were any active warrants on Ortkiese.
After going into the apartment and speaking with the tenant in reference to the stolen items, Sgt. Womack then returned to his patrol unit. After returning to his patrol unit he was then advised that the suspect Kyle Ortkiese did have an active warrant for a probation violation.
Sgt Womack then returned to the apartment. Upon getting someone to open the door, he noticed that the rear door was open and notified Chief Mooneyham that the individual had fled on foot out the rear of the apartment. Chief Mooneyham then went to the area on Sunny Slope Road just past where the Bryant Lane apartment is located, and observed Ortkiese squatted down in an open field.
When Ortkiese was approached by Chief Mooneyham, he took off running. After a brief foot chase, Ortkiese was apprehended by Chief Mooneyham where he was then returned to the Bryant Lanelocation.
Sgt. Womack and Chief Mooneyham then recovered radio equipment, perfume, and a pressure washer that had been reported stolen.
Ortkiese was charged with four counts of Burglary of an automobile, five counts of theft under $500.00, one count of criminal trespassing and one count of evading arrest. Also assisting in the investigation was Deputy Brandon Gullett with the Cannon County Sheriff's Department.
Total bond was set at $68,000. Initial court date is April 17.
