Plans are to relocate the fire hall to the Trail building.

Woodbury's Town Council reached an agreement  to move its fire department to Susan Trail's property off McMinnville Highway.

"This building is what we need," said Mayor Harold Patrick.

Woodbury Fire Department is already housing its new fire engine at the large garage at Bill Trail Motors, Patrick said. The lease will become effective on Jan. 1 and will be due in quarterly payments.

Trail will continue to maintain her existing office in the large structure.

"We can stay out of her way and she can stay out of ours," Patrick said.

"It's a good fit for the fire department," the mayor added.

The agreement calls for a two-year lease with a two-year option. She will give Woodbury the first option to buy the building.

The lease specifies that the fire department cannot make any modifications to the building and that Trail will maintain use of the car wash bay inside the structure, said City Attorney Dale Peterson.

Vice Mayor Charlie Harrell moved that the council adopt the agreement and Jo Ann Davis seconded. The measure passed unani-mously.

Meanwhile, the town of Woodbury intends to pursue an Appalachian Region Commission (ARC) federal grant for purchase of the Trail property.

"She will give us first option to buy," Patrick said.

The move will also free the existing fire hall for use by the Woodbury Water Department, which is needing to expand, he said.

In other action, the council approved allowing Police Chief Kevin Mooneyham to explore options on prep-aring holiday food baskets for Woodbury's under-privileged residents.

In the past, the Neigh-borhood Watch program collected items for the basket, but that's no longer possible, Mooneyham said.

The city is looking at the possibility of coordinating the baskets through the Cannon County Food Bank, 301 W. Main St. Alderman Lois Larimer is in charge of the food bank, which basically functions for emergency use.

Mayor Patrick also notified Board of Aldermen members of the Dec. 7 dedication of the new Highway 70 (McMinnville Highway) bridge near Cannon County High School.

The event is set for 1 p.m. and will be marked by the naming of "Cannon County Veterans Memorial Bridge." State and local officials are expected to be on hand.
