Woodbury Mother, Daughter Killed In Murfreesboro Accident

A young mother and her infant daughter, both residents of Woodbury, died Sunday morning during an accident on Richland Drive in Murfreesboro.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Amanda B. Odom, 21, and her 2-year-old daughter, Allysa Goins, were killed when Goins’ father, 23-year-old Christopher A. Goins of Murfreesboro, crashed the 2007 Chevy Malibu he was driving into a tree and two parked cars after running off the road near Woodbury Highway.

The mother and infant were residents of Cedar Ridge Court. Funeral arrangements are pending at Woodbury Funeral Home.

Investigators say Christopher Goins was drinking before the accident at a party. The older Goins and Odom were not wearing their safety belts at the time the crash occurred, according to the THP.

Trooper Michael Cummins said in his accident report that while the younger Goins was restrained in a child safety seat, it was not set up properly.

Authorities said speed was also a factor and criminal charges are pending. The investigation is ongoing.

As of Sunday night, Goins had not been arrested, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Goins lost control around 12:35 a.m. and ran off the road.

Goins only suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital.
