Woodbury Fire Chief Bill Johnston announced today that the department has been awarded a grant to purchase new equipment.

Chief Johnston said the amount of the grant, which was awarded by the Department of Homeland Security, is $37,500.

The Town of Woodbury's matching portion of the grant is $1,875, Johnston said.

The money will be used to purchase a thermal imaging camera, four new helmets, 20 pairs of gloves, three new air packs and 15 extra air bottles for the packs, Johnston said.

Johnston said he has two other grant proposals in the system and added, "it's good when you get it."

Sen. Lamar Alexander's office will make an official announcement of the grant Friday, Johnston said.
