Members of the Woodbury FFA Chapter competed in the regional livestock and dairy judging contests held at MTSU’s livestock center on April 12.

In the livestock contest, participants rank the animals — hogs, goats, sheep, and cattle — based on their marketability and breeding abilities. They also are required to give two sets of reasons justifying their placement of the classes.

The team, consisting of Katlyn Currie, Devan Brown, Allison Higgins, and Amelia Higgins, did an outstanding job in ranking the animals, and giving reasons and placed second high team out of forty-three teams.

High Individual awards went to Katlyn Currie and Devan Brown, receiving first and sixth placings respectively. Their outstanding performance paid off, advancing them to the state contest to be held in September at the Tennessee State Fair.  
 
Placing first in their division, on the alternative livestock team were Connor Hawkins, Madison Duke, Gabrielle Pack, and B.J. Daniel. Connor Hawkins and Gabrielle Pack also placed in the top ten, receiving first and sixth individual awards respectively.

In the dairy competition, contestants must judge the cattle mainly on their mammary systems, give reasons, and take a test. Amber Alexander, Chris Fleming, Courtney Barrett, and Haley Armstrong, members of the team, placed fourteenth out of forty teams. Cody Hayes was also an alternative for the dairy team.
