Woman convicted of domestic assault

A Bradyville woman was convicted of domestic assault in Cannon County General Sessions Court on Feb. 6.

Patricia B. Gomez was arrested on Feb. 4 by Deputy Zach Smith of the Cannon County Sheriff's Dept. According to the arrest warrant, Gomez threatened to "slit" the throat of the victim.

Gomez was also charged with possession of a Schedule IV drug. She had in her possession an orange round pill she identified as "valium" but had no prescription. Gomez admitted to using methamphetamine during the domestic assault and was charged with public intoxication.

Gomez entered a no contest plea to the domestic assault charge. Judge Susan Melton found her guilty and gave her a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and she was placed on probation for 11 months, 27 days. She was also ordered to serve two days in jail, pay the court costs and advised state and federal law prohibits her from owning or possessing a firearm.

Gomez also entered a guilty plea to a charge of possession of a Schedule IV drug and received a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, two days in jail, probation for 11 months, 27 days and a fine of $750. She must also pay the court costs. The sentences will run concurrent. The public intoxication charge was dismissed.

The results of some of the other cases on the docket are as follows:

• James Nicholas Barrett pleaded no contest to a charge of domestic violence. He was found guilty and was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and was placed on probation for an equal amount of time. Barrett pleaded guilty to a charge of allowing dog to run a large and was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and equal time on probation. The sentences will run concurrent. He was ordered to pay the court costs in both cases and restitution in the amount of $129. Because of the guilty finding in the domestic violence case, Barrett is prohibited from ever owning or possessing a firearm.

• Nicky A. Parker pleaded guilty to DUI third offense. He was given a jail sentence of 11 months, 29 days. Parker was also fined $1,100 and ordered to pay the court costs. In addition, his license was revoked for six years.

• Ronnie Lee Baxter Jr. pleaded guilty to simple possession of marijuana. He was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and was placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He was also fined $250, ordered to pay the court costs and to forfeit any property seized during the investigation.

• Courtne Grayson Elrod pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm while under the influence and received a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and equal time on probation. He was also ordered to pay the court costs and to forfeit the weapon.

• John Patrick McKay pleaded no contest to violation of the sex offender registry. He was found guilty and ordered to serve 60 days in jail. He was also given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days an equal time on probation. He received a $350, was ordered to pay the court costs and to comply with all conditions of the sex offender registry.

• Danielle Leigh Goodman admitted to guilt on a charge of misuse of 911 and entered into an agreed order or retirement for 11 months, 29 days. She was also ordered to pay the court costs.

• Braxton Kain Bennett agreed to revocation for violation of probation. He was ordered to serve 30 days in jail and his probation was extended for 10 months, 29 days.

• Lauren N. Pegg agreed to revocation for violation of probation. She was ordered to serve 30 days in jail and her probation was extended for 7 months, 29 days.

• Timothy Wayne Reed agreed to revocation for violation of probation. His probation was extended for 11 months, 27 days.

• Wesley Scott agreed to revocation for violation of probation. He was ordered to serve 60 days and his probation was extended for 8 months, 29 days.

• Eric M. Burton agreed to revocation for violation of probation. He was ordered to serve 60 days and his probation was extended for 9 months, 24 days.

• Jeremy D. Thomas agreed to revocation for violation of probation. He was ordered to serve 11 months, 29 days. Upon release he will be back on probation for 11 months, 29 days.
