Wilma Pauline Milstead Powell

Mrs. Wilma Pauline Milstead Powell, 76, of Woodbury passed away on August 29, 2014. She was born in the Irving College Community of Warren County on July 21, 1938. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles William Milstead and two brothers, Wayne Milstead and Jimmy Milstead.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice Powell of Woodbury; mother, Gertrude Roberts Milstead of Irving College; two sons, Stephen & Patricia Powell of Woodbury and Larry Powell of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Lonnie & Pat Milstead and Eugene Milstead both of Irving College; one sister, Donna Milstead of Irving College; five grandchildren, Brittany & Paul Clark, Larry Dillon Powell, Gabriella Powell, Austin Powell and Ethan Powell and two great grandchildren, Rylie Clark and Cassidy Clark.

Mrs. Powell grew up in the Irving College Community and graduated high school there. After graduation she attended MTSU and Draughons Business College. She met her future husband Maurice in Nashville while going to school. They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary next month. She worked for Century Electric for several years before their first child was born. She left Century Electric, deciding that being at home and taking care of her family was the most important work she could do. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening and just being together. In the past few years she became ill and was diagnosed with CIDP, a form of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Her family was right by her side to support and give her comfort as she needed it. She was a member of the Pleasant View Church of Christ.

Visitation was held at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 4-9 PM and on Monday, September 1, 2014 from 10-11 AM. Funeral services followed in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Al Bugg and Jerry Gilley officiated. Interment followed at Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to, GBS-CIDP Foundation, Tennessee Bible College, American Diabetes Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
