William Lehman "Pap" Mitchell



Mr. William Lehman "Pap" Mitchell, 87, of Woodbury died May 5, 2011. He was born December 25, 1923 in Cannon County. His parents were the late Robert Brown Mitchell and Ina (Busey) Mitchell. He was married to Hixie (Roach) Mitchell on December 24, 1943 and preceded in death by her in 1974. Also preceded by his brothers, George Mitchell, Brown Mitchell and Josh Mitchell.
 
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Harold Patrick of Woodbury, Virginia and Roy Young of Hermitage; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Clark Rains of Woodbury; grandchildren, Johnathan Grant and Bridget Holt of Woodbury, Bradford Wayne & Stacy Young of Hermitage, Tamela Sue and Rob Angell of Hermitage; 5 great granddaughters and 4 great grandsons.
 
He was a member of the Woodbury Church of Christ. He graduated from the Woodbury Central High School in the class of 1942. He served as former Cannon County Executive, former Cannon County Road Supervisor, current President of the Riverside Cemetery Association, former President of the Cannon County Walking Horse Association, director of the Cannon County Head Start program and the Cannon County Senior Center, Cannon County Fair Board. He worked with the Upper Cumberland Development District to help Cannon County with many important projects including, The Cannon County Recreation Center and Pool, Cannon County Senior Center. He loved horses he was a noted Walking Horse trainer and breeder.
 
Visitation will be Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 4-8 PM at Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at 2 PM in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Herb Alsup will officiate and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Woodbury Church of Christ, Cannon County Walking Horse Association or the Riverside Cemetery Association.
