West Side Alumni Basketball Games Honor Annie Cox

Three alumni vie for possession.
Several generations of West Side students met at the First Annual West side Alumni Basketball games honoring former teacher and girls basketball coach Annie Cox.

A dedicated teacher of 64 years, Mrs. Annie Cox left a strong impression on generations of West Side attendees.

"She was just an amazing woman," Angie Sissom said. "She was such an incredible teacher and just really devoted to her kids."

Organizers Karen King and Rita James plan to make the Alumni games a yearly event. King noted that Mrs. Cox had taught three generations of her family — King, her parents, and King's children.

Mrs. Cox passed away last year after her health took a bad turn. The gymnasium at West Side Elementary School is now named for her.
