Mike West

Cannon County native Mike West has been named Editor of the Cannon Courier, Publisher Ron Fryar announced today.

“We are pleased to have Mike joining us at the Courier. He has the background and expertise to be a great editor. He has the mixture of local knowledge and personality and should make a great addition to our staff,” Fryar said.

West is the grandson of the late Cling and Lena West and John and Angie Van Hooser ofCannonCounty. He was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Woodbury. His newspaper experience includes working on the staffs of The Daily News Journal and the Murfreesboro Post.

“I’ve been here just long enough to learn how much our readers value the Cannon Courier and I feel a great deal of responsibility toward continuing a great tradition of newspapering,” West said.

“I hope to spend the next few weeks getting out and meeting people and finding out what they expect from their newspaper,” he said.

West is the son of WC and the late Sara Van Hooser West. His brothers, Carroll Van and Chris both live in Murfreesboro.

Van is director of director of the Center for Historic Preservation at MTSU, is the co-chair of the Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and director of the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area.

Chris is an official with the National Healthcare Corporation (NHC) in Murfreesboro.
