NASHVILLE - Four cross-country runners represented Cannon County in the TSSAA Class A/AA State Championships at Steeplechase here Saturday.
All four turned in Top 50 finishes and registered personal best times in the biggest meet of the year.
Junior standout Marshall McReynolds led the Lions with a 24th place finish out of 186 competitors with a 17:42.98 on the challenging course. Teammate Jordan Turney finished 48th amongst the field with an 18:09.57.
“Marshall and Jordan had strong seasons and they capped with a strong showings at the state meet,” Head Coach Marc Larson said.
Whited and Magana were on one another’s heels. Whited capped a smashing freshman season with a 31st place finish (out of 186 participants) and Magana finished 32nd.
Whited ran a 21:30.59 and Magana was close behind with a 21:35.43.
“Both of them were strong all season and they had a strong meet,” Larson said.
Both state champions came from Region 4-A/AA, which includes Cannon County. Central Magnet won the boys championship and Signal Mountain captured the girls title.
“Cannon County was represented very well and I am proud of all of the athletes,” Larson said. “The state meet is a humbling place. It is the culmination of much hard work throughout the year.”
