W C West, a native of Woodbury, Tennessee, died February 12, 2014 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.  

Born August 28, 1926, to parents Cling and Lena Todd West, W. C. was preceded in death by his wife Sara (Van Hooser) West, his sisters Wavil and Dorothy and his brother Jack.  His survivors include his sisters Helen Alexander of Readyville and Ruth Pugh of Gassaway; sons Michael, Van, and Chris and daughters-in-law Mary Hoffschwelle and Beth West, all of Murfreesboro; his grandchildren Owen, Maria, Gabrielle, Evan, Lucas, Sara, Eric, Angie, and Emily, all of Murfreesboro; and numerous nephews and nieces.

W C West was a veteran of World War II, serving with Co. C, 130th Infantry, 33rd Division of the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater and in the Occupation of Japan from 1944 to 1946.  He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with a bronze battle star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and Army of Occupation Medal-Japan.  He left the service as Technician 4th Grade November 20, 1946, at Ft. Sheridan, IL.

Following his service, W C worked with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Murfreesboro before joining civilian service at the Seward Air Force Base in Smyrna.  He worked in the Air Force until 1971, ending his career at Robbins AFB in Georgia. W C lasted worked at the General Electric factory in Murfreesboro to his retirement.

In retirement, he enjoyed traveling.  He and Sara traveled to Europe, Japan, and all over the United States.  His high school education, having been interrupted by World War II, was completed in 2000 and he graduated in a ceremony at the Rutherford County Board of Education. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Waldrop officiating.  Interment will follow in Leoni Cemetery.
