Dangerous road conditions are expected across middle Tennessee tonight. Although most of the accumulating snowfall is now east of the midstate, isolated snow showers will still be an ongoing possibility overnight.

Additionally, as the Arctic airmass moves in, all of the moisture that remains on the road surfaces will turn to ice. Black ice, which is ice that one cannot see, will
be present on many road surfaces and can cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Motorists are strongly urged to use extreme caution if traveling tonight across any portion of middle TN. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.

  • Timing... additional snow accumulation is expected over eastern middle Tennessee through early this evening.

  • Main impact... some parts of eastern middle Tennessee have already received around an inch of snow... and an additional inch is likely before snow tapers off early this evening. Travel problems and delays can be expected.

  • Other impacts... wind chills as low as minus five can be expected and therefore limiting your time outdoors during this unusually cold time would be wise.

    Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
