Cannon County’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end following a contested loss against Smith County in the District 8-AA Tournament.

The Lionettes dropped a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-8) decision against Smith County.

“We played well overall in the first two matches, but we couldn’t get over the hump,” Cannon County Head Coach Sila Kailiponi said. “We were generally playing from behind and the girls exerted a lot of energy to get back into the games. We just didn’t have enough left to make a run in the final sets. We had to overcome some things a long the way but I’m proud of the girls who played and the effort they exhibited all season.”

The Lionettes played without junior Rebekah Faulkner most of the season. She had two aces, a kill and four tips against Smith County.

Ariana Kailiponi had another solid performance with five tips, three assists, one dig and one ace.
Marion Wallace finished with two tips, two digs and one ace.

Hannah Faulkner also was active with two tips and one dig. Emily Sissom added one ace and one assist for the Lionettes.

“The good thing is we made strides this season and have several girls back so that is a good thing for us,” Coach Kailiponi said.
