Veterans Thank Supporters

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Veterans Thank Supporters

Veteran Lonnie "Mayne" Mooneyham, right, and his wife, Dorothy, look on during the Veterans Day Program at Cannon County High School on Nov. 11.

The Veterans and Concerned Citizens for the Veterans of Cannon County want to thank all of the good folks of Woodbury and Cannon County who supported the Veterans Day Program at the Cannon County High School and the Veterans Day Parade to honor our Veterans.

A special thanks to all of the participants in the parade, to all of the folks that observed the parade, and to all of the many folks who provided donations. When we started 19 years ago our budget was $600.00. That amount has grown to over $2000.00 for the program and the parade. The Good Lord has always provided us with the funds for each year.

Tom Nichols, who had the vision 19 years ago to honor our veterans, asked me if I would come and help get something going to honor our veterans of Cannon County. His guidance was to have a Program and a Parade every year, and every year it has to be a little bigger and a little better. For 19 years we have lived up to his guidance.

Mr. Tom Nichols is a very special man in my book. He is not a veteran. He wanted to join the military, but medical problems kept him from signing up. The people of Cannon County and especially the Veterans of Cannon County owe Mr. Tom Nichols a great big THANK YOU for his vision and desire to honor our Veterans.

It has been a great honor and a pleasure for me to work with Mr. Tom and the Good People of Cannon County who support his vision, and especially to the faithful members of the Veterans and Concerned Citizens for the Veterans of Cannon County, who have been standing tall every year to make sure we got the job done, and done right.

My sincere thanks to all of you, and God bless each one of you, God bless the Veterans of Cannon County, and God bless the United States of America.

• The winners in the 2011 Veterans Day Parade are: Best Float - The Woodbury Lions Club. The best Antique Vehicle (military or civilian) - Randall Davis. Best Overall Entry - Sunny Hills Baptist Church. Each of the winners received a check for $100.00.
