The Veterans Day Program at the Cannon County High School for 2016
was the BEST one out of all the 24 years. The Annual Veterans
Day Parade is always a great parade, because of the great support
we get from our first responders, veterans, and dedicated folks in the
County and outside the County. Two observations for this year that
causes concern in my mind, and that is the numbers of Veterans that we
normally honor at the Cannon county High School was down
from what we normally honor. And for the parade, all of the people put in
a great deal of effort to enter the parade and make it a
great parade. And, normally we have great crowds to view the
parade, but this year, for some reason, was down in attendance a
little. All of the parade participants/entries throw out candy to the
kids, so we like to see lots of kids and grown ups, lining the parade
route.

The Big Winners in our parade were: Best Antique Vehicle
Military or Civilian: was Howard Witty and his antique United
States Air Force Jeep. Best Float: was Ryan Burks from
Centertown. Best Overall Entry: was the Combined Group of Boy
Scout Troop 1180, Cub Scout Pack 1180, and Girl Scout---
The American Legion Post 279 Commander's Award for the Parade
goes to, The "Young Marines" Commanded by Sgt. Bryson Bell,
who was selected as the "Young Marine of the Year", for the
Marine Battalion and all of Middle Tennessee area. His Team
consisted of PFC Corey Smith and PFC Andrew Smith.

Boy Scout Troop 1180, Scoutmaster, Josh Rinehart.
Girl Scout Troop 1180, Scoutmaster, DD Rinehart
Cub Scout Pack 1180, Tiger Den Leader, Benjamin Valentine. Assistant Den
Leader -Thomas Floyd. Wolf Den Leader - Jason McGhee. Assistant Den

Assistant Den Leader - Tammi Floyd. Webelos Den Leader - Brian Nelson.

A Special Thank You to Carl and Opal at WOODBURY FLOWERS; and to
Pat at BRIAR ROSE for the wreaths they donated and placed on the
Monument in front of our Courthouse, Honoring our 61 men that
gave their lives for this great country and this wonderful
FREEDOMthat we all enjoy.

DO ME A BIG FAVOR! If you have any comments or suggestions
about the Veterans Day Program at CCHS or the Annual Veterans
Day Parade please let me know what your thoughts are. We want
the Program and Parade to always be the very best. And, we
want the citizens of Cannon County to come out and honor our
Veterans, and we want our Veterans to come to the Program and
Parade and be honored and to help us honor all of our veterans.
The staff and faculty of CCHS and all of the Teachers and Students
do a truly outstanding job of supporting the Veterans of Cannon
County. And, this is where the message needs to be, so that we
and our children never forget the cost of freedom, FREEDOM is not
FREE. And they need to hear the Proud History and the Proud
Heritage of Cannon County.

GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS OUR VETERANS
