Town of Woodbury officials reported Friday afternoon they had fixed a serious water leak.

Public Works Director Shane Gannon said the leak was located in Bradyville and repaired.

"We appreciate everyone's patience as we were going about the process of finding and repairing the leak," Gannon said.

A leak is causing the Town of Woodbury to lose about 60 gallons of water a minute.

If it is not fixed, the water loss would add up to about a million gallons a month, town officials say.

Shane Gannon, public works director, said the water department was first alerted to the problem earlier this week and has been working day and night to isolate the location of the leak.

Gannon said he believes the leak is happening somewhere between John Bragg Highway and Burt Bergen Road.

An outside firm, Rye Engineering, is assisting the town in finding the exact location.

"They (Rye Engineering) do leak detection and water loss management," Woodbury mayor Andy Duggin said. "I's a pretty bad leak. That's why we brought them in so we can find it and get it fixed as soon as possible."

Gannon said the complication in finding the leak is because it is occurring underground.

"If the water were coming up above ground we would be able to spot it, but unfortunately it's not that easy," Gannon said.

Customers in the area may experience brief outages during the process of trying to isolate the leak, Gannon said. Once it is found, there will also be short outages while the problem is being repaired, he added.
