MOORETOWN TREATS: The Mooretown VFD will be giving out treats to all children Halloween night, Oct. 31st from 5:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the firehall located at 473 Hollow Springs Rd.

FOOTBALL FRIGHT: The Cannon County High School Football Boosters Club will be welcoming visitors who are brave enough to attend to a haunted house this coming Friday and Saturday and also on Oct. 30 and 31 at the Veterans Memorial Gymnasium. The event is being staged by players and parents of the football team. Hours are from 5-11 p.m. this coming weekend and 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 31. Times for Oct. 30 will be announced later. Admission is $5 and concessions will be available. Come help support the team and to have a good time.

'TIS THE SEASON: The 4th Annual Coat and Toy Drive for the Children, sponsored by Cash Express, is now underway. Once again you have the opportunity to be a blessing to someone else. Cash Express invites you to join with us in the celebration of giving. We are pairing up with our local public servants to become a blessing to the families in our community. We will be accepting toys, coats, shoes (washable) and non perishable food items in many drop off locations in the area. We ask that all donations be received by December 15 in order to have them delivered in time for Christmas.

MERCHANTS MEETING: The Cannon County Chamber of Commerce will have a merchants meeting on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Cannon County Courthouse. The topic of discussion will be the annual Cannon County Christmas Open House. For more information call 563-2421.

CHURCH HALLOWEEN: First Baptist Church, Woodbury invites the community to visit on Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., trick-or-treaters of all ages and their parents can stop by for free hot dogs, beverages and sweets near the church lot at the corner of College Street and West Main. "We want to share Jesus in a practical way," said Travis Prater, assistant youth minister. "On Halloween, the community comes to our door. We want to be there to welcome them, and to feed them physically, as well as spiritually." VETERANS MEETING: The Veterans and Concerned Citizens for the Veterans of Cannon County will meet at the Senior Citizens Center on Lehman Street next to the Veterans Memorial Gymnasium in Woodbury at 6:30 p.m. , Thursday, October 22, 2009. If you know of a man or woman serving in the military forces today, please notify Mrs Bonnie Patterson, Assistant Principal CCHS. Mrs. Patterson came up with the idea to have a CCHS Wall of Honor to pay tribute to all of the men and women from Cannon County serving in the military. She also needs a picture of the individual. She will have the picture enlarged to 8X10 in color and placed on the wall. Stay tuned for our Veterans Day Activities -- the Program at CCHS Friday Nov. 13 and our Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 14 honoring our veterans.

MEDICARE PART D: SHIP representatives from Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability will be at the Cannon County Senior Center on Dec. 1 to help compare and counsel on Medicare Part D plans for 2010. It is very important to compare drug plans each year. SHIP will also screen beneficiaries for Low Income Subsidy, or Extra Help. People with low incomes and limited assets may qualify for Extra Help to assist with paying for premiums, deductibles, and co-pays with the Medicare Drug Benefit. If your yearly income is below $16,245 (single) or $21,855 (couple) and your assets/resources are below $12,510 (single) or $25,010 (couple) you may qualify for Extra Help. Please call the Cannon County Senior Center at (615)563-5304 to sign up for an appointment. Be sure to bring a list of current medications and your Red, White and Blue Medicare ID card. SHIP offers free and objective counseling to all Medicare Beneficiaries. UCDD/AAAD covers all 14 Upper Cumberland Counties.

FARM BUREAU FUN NITE: The Cannon County Farm Bureau will be holding a Farm Bureau Fun Nite at the Cannon County Expo Building Saturday, Oct. 24 from 4-6 p.m. There will be lots of food, fun, games and ag education … all for free, including a costime contest for kids of all ages. Farm Bureau/4-H Career Exploration Graduation immediately following at 6 p.m. There will also be a petting farm with animals galore, pony rides, goat milking contest and two special guests. FELLOWSHIP, FOOD, FUTURE: The next meeting of the Auburntown Historical Society will be Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Auburntown Church of Christ. The AHS Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. The meeting will offer the opportunity for fellowship among new and potential members as we launch a new era in the history of our organization. Following a 6 p.m. Board of Directors meeting, the Auburntown Church of Christ Fellowship Hall will open for a potluck dinner and annual business meeting.

LIONS BBQ BASH: The 2nd Annual Cannon County Lions BBQ Bash will be held Saturday, October 24th from noon until 4 p.m.. Join them for a fun afternoon at the Cannon County High School Sports Complex. The High School Marching Band will perform. All the athletes for the 2009 sports seasons will be introduced as well as the 2009 High School Cheerleaders, plus Junior Lions, Youth Football Players and Cheerleaders. DISASTER DRILL: On Oct. 26th beginning at 2 p.m., Stones River Hospital along with Cannon County High School and local emergency management teams will be conducting a Community Disaster drill. STUDIO TOUR: The 10th Annual Off The Beaten Path Studio Tour is Oct. 23 - 25 in DeKalb and Cannon Counties in the Center Hill Lake region of Middle Tennessee. COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION: The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for Cannon County on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Cannon County Community Center located at the Fairgrounds. Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. Persons may receive commodities for a total of three (3) households if valid cards are presented at the distribution.
