Underhill celebrates 28 years of service

Michael Underhill

On March 10, 2015, Michael Underhill celebrated 28 years of service as a volunteer emergency responder in Cannon County. Michael joined the Cannon County Rescue Squad, Inc. and the Cannon County Fire Department in 1987. Since then he has achieved the rank of Chief Executive Officer for the Rescue Squad and Cannon County Fire Chief.

Michael is a Tennessee certified Firefighter and he holds a certificate as a Level One Instructor from the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squad (TARS). As a Level One Instructor, he is qualified to teach the TARS basic vehicle rescue training program, emergency vehicle operations, and exposure control training. He has also obtained certifications in National Incident Management System (NIMS) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Michael is a Lifetime Member of the Mooretown Fire Department and the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads. Michael has served the Rescue Squad as Sergeant and as Captain (CEO). He has been the CEO of the Rescue Squad since 1992. Michael has been the Fire Chief of the Short Mountain Fire Department since 1994 and has been the Cannon County Fire Chief since 2012. Chief Underhill is a hometown hero in a community that is grateful for his service.

Outside of his involvement with the volunteer emergency services in Cannon County, he likes to be outdoors and enjoys farming. He is married to Cindy (Byford) Underhill and they have two beautiful daughters, Makayla and Kelsey.

We would like to thank Chief Underhill for all of the work that he is doing in Cannon County every day to help our citizens. He has been a driving force for growth and development of our rural volunteer fire departments and Rescue Squad.
