Cannon County's girls basketball team is ranked 8th this week in a poll of Midstate basketball teams conducted by the Nashville Tennessean newspaper.

The Lionettes are 9-0 on the season following victories last week over Forrest, which is ranked 9th in the same poll, and district rival Livingston Academy.

The Lionettes will be going after their 10th win Friday night when both Cannon County teams travel to Coffee County for their only action of the week.

Cannon County will be facing Coffee County for the second time this season when they travel to Manchester. The girls defeated the Lady Raiders 75-53 on Nov. 23, while the Lions won 72-62.

Cannon County's boys will enter Friday's outing with a 6-3 record.

The Lionettes and Lions will close out the 2009 portion of their schedule when they play in the 2nd Annual Sonic Shoot-Out at White County High School in Sparta Dec. 28-30.
