Two More Eye Fifth District School Board Seat

Less than a week ago there were no candidates for Fifth District representative on the Cannon County Board of Education. Today there are four.

According to the Cannon County Election Office, LuAnn Curlee and Shelley Walkup have both obtained the necessary paperwork to attempt to qualify for the race.

They are facing a short deadline as they attempt to get the 25 signatures of registered voters who live in the Fifth District. Qualifying deadline is at noon Thursday.

Curlee and Walkup join Charley Heath and Michael Mayfield in seeking the seat, which is being vacated at the end of the current term by incumbent Roy Parker, who has decided not to run for re-election.

• In other election-related news, Election Commissioner Matt Studd asked that candidates or other persons in need of information to please contact the election office.

"We have had a lot of people receiving false information out on the streets, and that has created confusion," Studd said. "The only persons with the most accurate and up-to-date information about election information are those who work in our office."
