TSSAA: West Creek Must Vacate Win Over Lions

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System Release

CLARKSVILLE — he Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Wednesday accepted West Creek High School’s recommended response after the school self-reported a TSSAA rules violation involving the school’s paying for a student’s attendance at a specialty camp this summer.

A casual comment about a student athlete’s participation in the camp led administrators to review whether the school’s sponsorship of the camp cost would violate a TSSAA rule. It was established that while the situation constitutes a violation, it also was confirmed that neither head coach Shane Goodwin nor the student was aware of the TSSAA rule.

On Monday, the school reported the violation to TSSAA along with a recommendation that the school face the following consequences:

* The student will be eligible for future games after reimbursing the school for the $300 camp, which was paid for through the school’s Individual School Account.

* Coach Goodwin will not attend football practice for the week and will not coach for the next two football games.

* The school will pay a $50.00 fine to TSSAA, however, the coach has requested that he personally pay the fine.

* The 48-7 win over Cannon County High School, a non-district opponent, would be vacated.

Offensive coordinator Justin Palmer will serve as acting head coach for the Montgomery Central and Northeast games. Players and coaches were informed of the situation at practice this afternoon. In concert with the federal privacy law, the name of the student involved will not be released, nor confirmed.
