Truck Reported Stolen Found In A Creek

Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Travis Turney was dispatched to 1417 Hollow Springs Rd. on Aug. 8 to take a report of a motor vehicle theft.

Upon arrival he spoke with Cameron Lee Newman who stated he arrived at his girlfriend’s house last night (Aug. 7) around 11 p.m. Newman said he went inside and left the keys in his truck.

He advised he fell asleep and did not wake up until the morning and when he did he found his truck was missing from the driveway. Newman also said it appeared whoever took the truck left a child’s bike next to where the truck was parked.

Newman assumed the person who took the truck left the bike. Deputies photographed the bike and attempted to dust for prints but were unable to find any that could be used for identification purposes.

Newman said he truck was a red 1990 Toyota pickup 4x4 5-speed. He said the vehicle had a primer tailgate, no rear bumper, single cab, diamond plate toolbox containing which contained a red bar light with assorted LED lights and a pair of Justin Boots.

Later on Aug. 8 Deputy Turney received notification from Cannon County Dispatch to the effect that Newman and a friend were waiting at the bottom of Petty Gap hill and would like to speak with an officer regarding the stolen truck. Deputy Turney went there and spoke with Newman and David Michael Thomas, who stated the stolen truck was in the creek next to the roadway.

Thomas stated he was driving on Petty Gap Rd. to assist his friend in finding the vehicle and found it in the creek close to 1700 block of Petty Gap Rd.

Deputy Turney confirmed it was the stolen vehicle and it was processed on the scene for evidence. Newman noticed his license plate was bent upward.

The entire vehicle was dusted for prints and the license plate was removed and dusted for prints at the sheriff’s department, where one print was lifted and filed in evidence to be submitted to the TBI.

The case remains under investigation.
