Whether you were with a large group or chose to sit in a comfy chair and read all by yourself, it's all the same. It's a day to relax the way you wish. I have done both, house full of folks or just me. JD and I went to our friends' home and shared dinner with six other people. Football and good food, a nice combination and not having to cook the entire meal all by myself was a relief. Last year Uncle Festus tried the turkey fryer for the first time. Need I say more? He fired it up inside his kitchen and blew out the back of his trailer. No one knows for sure where the turkey landed, but I will say lots of dogs and wildlife were pleasantly surprised with their dinner that day. Aunt Martha was furious and left him with the mess and came on over to my house where I had already prepared an oven cooked bird just in case. She said that Festus had not only burned his beard and eyebrows off, but all the mashed potatoes and green peas also blew up and landed all over him giving him an appearance of green chicken pox all over his body. For weeks after that, she was still washing the explosion of food out of his overall pockets and suspender straps. Not to mention, the cost of a new trailer and doghouse. Now, you can see why I was relieved that those two had a different place to go to this year! But, there is always Christmas...so I will keep you posted! We had a great last couple of week ends at the Short Mountain Trading Post . Many visitors and shoppers were previous folks who come to Tennessee to their cabins and vacation homes during the fall and early winter. Then back to Florida, Indiana and so on. Most have family here and bring them to the Post also. Presently, we are open on sunny days when temperature is no less than 55 degrees on Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 to 4. It is warm enough and pleasant and the free coffee is great! There is a big Holiday Sale going on with 20% to 50% off on all merchandise. There is a ton of wonderful crafts and Christmas items on sale and antiques and gifts as well. So please come on in and have a great time! We are all decorated for Christmas inside and out. It's a grand time to take those colorful Holiday pictures, so see you then. Big kudos to Mike West and Teresa Stoetzel of the Cannon Courier for featuring our Extravaganza a few weeks ago. It means a lot to all of us that our news at the Post is appreciated. Also, Carolyn Motley at the Chamber of Commerce needs to be always congratulated for her hard work and extreme organization regarding all the constant activities that go on in our county. Great job, lady! Keep up the good work! All of you folks, keep up the good work in what you do for your family and friends everyday. Don't panic over Christmas shopping. Many of us cannot afford to go whole hog on the expensive gifts at this point, but it's not just the material things that matter. Yes, it makes us happy and excited to place things under the tree and watch people open them, but the best gift you can ever give someone is love, hugs, kindness, respect and consideration. Forgiveness is in there somewhere as well. Without you wonderful people in this chaotic world, we would all be lost!
