Trading Post Chat

By SAVANNAH CUNNICK

Hope all of you had a fun Halloween! I really miss those days of yore when I handmade my two boys' costumes and walked them all over the neighborhood to collect candy. Now, there is such an uproar of strange people giving out bad goods to our little beggars, that we have our safe organizations who offer healthy treats now in charge.

hanks to all of you who participate in safe Halloween. It means so much to the community and to our little ones who still want to have fun on this special night. We had a successful trunk or treat for the children who visited our Spooktacular. They were so cute toting their little pumpkin buckets and colorful bags. Really was a treat for all of us at the Trading Post as well.

I will never forget two cute incidents on Trick or Treat Night that I will share with you. The first event was our little neighbor fella who would change costumes and go back for more candy, thinking he was fooling everybody. Finally, one year, I said: Hey, Jason, I've been meaning to tell you how clever I have always thought you were to do the costume-changing trick to keep collecting more candy from everybody. He stopped dead in his tracks. I laughed and just gave him another candy bar. The next cute thing that happened was that I had hung a very scary and loud monster face by the door. It would pop out and scream:

Happy Halloween...Ha Ha Ha Ha. It was motioned activated, so when anyone would approach the front door it would pop out and scream. Well, two little boys were my next victims that night. Sure enough, out the ghoul pops and I heard screams. I opened the door and there was a seven-year-old who immediately said: That didn't scare me ! But, the little 4-year-old said: Well, it sure scared me! How cute is that! Of course, the 4 year old got more candy.

Uncle Fester is all upset because I told him he is too old to collect candy. I think he was still dizzy from Aunt Clara finally fetching him off the Dumbo ride in Disney World. Instead he went to the Haunted House walk and held hands with Clara who was behind him....only to find out that he was holding hands with a very creepy ghoul instead. He about had a heart attack when he discovered it wasn't Clara and swore that from now on Halloween was NOT his favorite holiday anymore! It had totally exceeded the limits of his medication! Cousin Clyde is having one heck of a hard time with his new dog. Evidently, it is quite neurotic and drives him nuts with all his bad dog antics. Well, one morning he had to rush into town and forgot to put the dog, Truman, in his fenced area. When Clyde came back home, he couldn't help but notice a huge cloud of fluff all over his yard. Much to his dismay, it turned out that good ole Truman had pulled all the insulation out from under his trailer and tossed it all over the place. I guess that folks drove by for quite awhile and looked over at that mess wondering just what the heck they were looking at ! Believe me, it took a lot of yard garbage bags to clean that mess up. Plus, to replace all that insulation was expensive! Poor Clyde.
