Three employees of the Town of Woodbury were recognized for their outstanding service during the Town of Woodbury Mayor and Aldermen meeting at City Hall Tuesday

Police officer John House, fire chief Joe Loftus and city employee Perry Stone were all honored by the Hilton Stone American Legion Post 279 for their service. Alderman Charlie Harrell, Commander of Post 279, presented the awards.

"It is a great honor for the American Legion Post 279 to work with the Town of Woodbury and Cannon County to pay tribute to our outstanding employees," Harrell said.

The three honorees received certificates of meritorious service, as well as a trophy from American Legion Post 279, for their service to the citizens of the Town of Woodbury.

House was recognized as the Outstanding Policeman for the Town of Woodbury for 2014. Loftus was recognized as the Outstanding Fireman of the Year and Stone was recognized as the Outstanding Employee of the Town of Woodbury.

"Our first responders are the ones we depend on when we have an emergency," said Col. Jim Stone. "These men and women, just like our men and women serving in the military, signed a blank check payable to the citizens of Cannon County and this great country in the amount up to and including their lives if that situation arises.
"When you see a policeman, fireman, medical technician, rescue squad member, 911 members or Sheriff's deputy, thank them for the great job they are doing for our city and county. Do the same for our men and women in our military forces. These are the folks that make this a great city, county and nation. Just ask the families of the 61 men whose names are engraved on the monument in front of the (Cannon County) Courthouse."

The Hilton Stone American Legion Post 279 members are currently working on the annual Veterans Day celebration at Cannon County High School in November, as well as the Veterans Day Parade.
