Two Cannon County men were charged with aggravated assault after they became involved in an altercation over which one of them was a professional wrestling character.
According to the investigative report, on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Chip Avera along with Deputy Tommy Barker were dispatched to 283 Youngblood Rd. for a fight in progress.
Dispatched advised them two males were fighting with knives and both had injuries and both had been drinking.
While en route to the address, Cannon County Dispatch advised the deputies one of the males involved in the fight had left the residence and was walking with another male subject, while the other male subject involved in the fight was leaving the residence attempting to catch them.
Deputy Barker then made contact at the intersection of Youngblood Rd. and Lonnie Smith Rd. with Milton Garfield Taylor, Jr., of 953 Manustown Rd., Woodbury, and Doyle Mooneyham. Deputy Barker called for Cannon County EMS to come to the scene due to Taylor having multiple lacerations.
While Deputy Barker was out taking information from Taylor and Mooneyham, Dispatch advised Deputy Avera officers were still needed at the complainant's address because the other male subject involved in the fight was holding a knife to the complainant and was very upset and trying to leave.
When the deputies arrived on scene and were pulling into the driveway, Dispatch advised them the male subject had finally put down the knife and was inside the residence.
Deputy Barker advised Dispatch that Taylor would be transported by EMS to the Stones River Hospital Emergency Room and requested for Patrolman John Fesmire with the Woodbury Police Dept. to strand by with Taylor at the ER until deputies could arrive.
The deputies then made their way to the back of the residence where they encountered Darletta Jean Baltimore standing in the driveway. She was the complainant on the 911 call. Baltimore stated Willie Lee Brown, 283 Youngblood Rd., was in the residence talking with his mother and did not have any weapons out at this time.
The deputies entered the house and met Willie Brown in the first room just inside the door. He was sitting on the couch. He had a cut under his right eye and some cuts on both hands. Deputy Avera asked Brown if he had any weapons on him and he replied no. However, upon searching Brown, Deputy Avera found a pocket knife.
Brown told Deputy Avera the incident began when he contacted Mooneyham to tell him that his (Mooneyham's) horses have gotten out behind his (Brown's) house. Taylor was with Mooneyham when he came over to put the horses up.
Brown said he and Taylor were inside the house talking when Taylor made the comment that he was "The Undertaker," who is a professional wrestling character, and Brown told him no he wasn't, he was "Cane," who is another wrestler. Brown insisted that he was "The Undertaker." Brown said they both got mad and that is when they started fighting.
Brown said they fought in the house and then broke through the storm door which has glass windows. Brown said he and Taylor went at it for a short time outside and Mooneyham tried to break up the fight. Brown said Taylor then left. Brown said neither he nor Taylor had any weapons at anytime during the fight and he didn't know how either of them sustained their injuries.
Deputy Barker advised Deputy Avera that Taylor had a large and deep laceration on his forearm.Brown stated he did not know how Taylor got it, but his guess was the injury occurred when they busted through the storm door windows. Brown told Deputy Avera it was his intention to kill Taylor and still would if he got the chance. Brown admitted he was drinking prior to the incident. Deputy Avera secured Brown in handcuffs and placed him in his patrol unit so he could interview the complainant and photograph the scene.
Baltimore told Deputy Avera that Brown was over at Mooneyham's house when she called over there to let them know the horses were out. She said Brown and Mooneyham came to the Youngblood Road along with Taylor and they had a clear bottle of alcohol they had been drinking.
Baltimore said she really didn't understand what the fight started over other than Brown and Taylor were arguing over which one of them was the wrestler "The Undertaker." Baltimore said she never saw either subject with a knife during the fight, and said Brown never threatened her to any extent.
Deputy Avera's photographed the scene. Items photographed included: the living room where items were knocked over, the door that had been broken, broken glass around the door, an orange screwdriver found lying next to the house in the grass that had blood on it, a towel that had blood on it lying in the bed of a pickup truck, and injuries Brown received during the altercation.
Deputy Avera searched the scene and could not locate a knife. The knife Brown had in his pocket did not have any signs that it had been used in the fight.
Brown was transported to the Cannon County Sheriff's Dept. and booked on charged of aggravated assault.
Deputy Avera then went to the hospital to interview Taylor, who had a large and deep laceration on his right forearm, a large cut to the left of his left eye, cuts to the fingers of his right hand, and what appeared to be a puncture would in the palm of his right hand. His shirt was heavily soaked in blood.
Taylor also said he was not sure what started the fight. He also admitted drinking prior to the altercation. Once released from the hospital, Taylor was transported to the CCSD where he was charged with aggravated assault.
Bond for both men was set at $8,000. They are scheduled to appear in Cannon County General Sessions Court for their initial appearance on Jan. 11.
