The Center For The Arts Presents Arsenic And Old Lace

MURFREESBORO — The Center for the Arts will present "Arsenic and Old Lace" directed by Mary Rodgers & Matt Carr, beginning October 2nd - 18th.

Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring, takes place in 1941. Abby and Martha Brewster are the sweetest, kindest old ladies in the world, or so it seems. But stored in the cellar of their Victorian mansion are the bodies of twelve gentlemen they have murdered. Well, not really murdered, just poisoned. But don’t think too harshly of them, it’s just one of their many charities - they wouldn’t do it if the gentlemen were not happier off as corpses. And then there’s their nephew Teddy, who thinks he’s Theodore Roosevelt, digs locks for the Panama Canal in the cellar, and buries the bodies there, convinced they are Yellow Fever victims. The three live happily together until their world is disrupted by another nephew, Mortimer, who, being sane, tries to put a stop to their charade. Meanwhile, another nephew, the evil Jonathan, returns home after many years with a sidekick, Dr. Einstein, and yet another corpse. Toss in a romance for Mortimer and a few cops who aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer to create a wonderfully entertaining and pleasurable evening of theatre.
