AMATEUR RADIO EXAM

The DeKalb/Cannon County Amateur Radio Club is sponsoring an Amateur Radio Exam Session on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 - 1 p.m. (Walk-ins  are allowed) at the Cannon County High School - Room #115, 1 Lion Drive, Woodbury. AMATEUR RADIO CLUB TO MEET

A meeting of the DeKalb/Cannon County Amateur Radio Club will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the DeKalb County Complex,722 South Congress Blvd.,Smithville,TN37166. All local amateur radio operators and those interested in amateur radio are invited to attend. Amateur radio operators also called “hams” communicate with other operators in the local area, statewide, nationally, and even worldwide. Hams also aid during times of emergencies with vital communication links. The DeKalb/Cannon County Amateur Radio Club is an affiliated club of the American Radio Relay League. COLLECTING TOYS, FOOD FOR

UNDERPRIVILEGED

For the ninth consecutive year, Cash Express, located at103 E. Main St., is collecting toys, canned food and coats for the underprivileged. Cash Express is teaming with the Cannon County SAVE program to distribute these items.

Anyone wishing to donate items can drop them off at Cash Express, 103 E. Main, or D&J’s Pizza, 805 W. Main St., Osbourne’s Piggy Wiggly, 834 W. Main St., First Bank, 101 W. Main St. or Mid Cumberland Head Start, 630 Lehman St.

Used coats will be cleaned by Cash Express.

 

SOLES4SOULS

Start cleaning out your closets!!! November 2012 will be the 2nd annual “Soles4Souls” shoe drive. Soles 4 Souls collects new and used shoes and gives to those in need all over the world. They have donated over 15 million pairs of shoes to people in need.

Last year,CannonCountydonated over 600 pairs of shoes and we hope to exceed that number this year. All county schools and the courthouse will have a drop off box during the entire month of November. Please make sure your shoes are bound together by the shoelaces or rubber bands.

CHRISTMAS ITEMS FUNDRAISER

Woodbury Church of God,745 Doolittle Road, is planning a Christmas sale with proceeds going to the church’s food program.

Ornaments, collectibles, Hallmark figurines, Christmas trees and other holiday supplies will be available at the church from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1.

 

2012 RESCUE FUND DRIVE

  The2012 Countywide Rescue Fund Driveis now under way.

   Some of the squad’s tools are approaching 30 years of service and are in need of replacement. For as little as 10 cents per day ($35) you can make a difference.

WOODBURY METHODIST CHURCH CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the church as a worshipping Methodist community in Woodbury. The church concludes a year long celebration with a complimentary Open  House for the community on Sunday, December 2nd between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. There will be a display of over 400 nativities, angels, crosses and many other items helping us experience our Savior’s birth.

If you are unable to join us on Sunday afternoon, the display will also be part of the Lion’s Club Christmas Tour of Homes on the night before from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Contact the Lion’s Club for tickets.

 

Social Security hours change

Effective Nov. 19, the Murfreesboro Social Security office will reduce its hours by 30 minutes each workday. The office will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

CannonCountyservices are covered by theMurfreesborooffice.

On Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving, the office will be closed to the public, but employeers there will work to reduce backlogged workloads.

Most Social Security services do not require an office visit. Many services, including applying for retirement, disability or Medicare benefits, signing up for direct deposit or informing of a change of address, are available online at www.socialsecurity.gov or by phone at 1_800-722-1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing can call the TTY number at 1-800-325-0778.

 

MEET REPRESENTATIVE PODY

Representative Mark Pody will be meeting every third Friday at theCannonCountySeniorCenterfrom 1:00p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Anyone that needs to talk to him is welcomed.

 Adult relative support group meeting will meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The meetings are scheduled for the Woodbury Church of Christ at100 East Water Street.
