A graveside service for Mrs. Sue Groom Crocker, 97, a long-time resident of Nashville and native of Cannon County, will be at 11 o’clock, Friday, November 4, 2011, at the South Woodlawn Mausoleum, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, where she will be interred with her late husband, Lloyd Sterling Crocker. 

Mrs. Crocker died Friday evening, October 28, in Columbia, Tenn., where she had lived since March 1998. 

Mrs. Crocker was born in Auburntown, April 4, 1914.  Her parents were the late Bertha Hancock Groom and Ras Groom. She graduated from Woodbury High School and attended Middle Tennessee State College in Murfreesboro. She then taught school for a few years before moving to Nashville.

Initially, in Nashville, she worked for Cain-Sloan and Company. Then, for more than 25 years, she was employed by South Central Bell Telephone Company, now AT&T. She retired in 1975.

In 1953, she married the late Lloyd Sterling “Dick” Crocker.  They were married 43 years.  Mr. Crocker, an L&N Railroad retiree, died August 1, 1996.  The Crockers were long-time members of Woodmont Baptist Church, Nashville.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Crocker was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers — Mrs. Hillard (Eva) Black, Milton; Mrs. Jim (Frances) Brandon, Woodbury and Murfreesboro; Mrs. B. H. (Mae) Summar, Murfreesboro; Mr. Hamilton Groom, Gallatin; Mrs. Eugene (Nelda) Keaton, Lebanon; Mrs. E. W. (Polly) Summar, Murfreesboro; Mr. James E. Groom, Long Beach, Calif.; and Mrs. Stanton (Christine) Bragg, Columbia.

Several nieces and nephews survive.

The family expresses special appreciation to NHC Hillview, Poplar Estates, and Caris Healthcare, all in Columbia.
