Strang dominant in Lions' victory



Cannon County freshman Graden Strang pitched a complete-game, two-hitter and the Lions turned back Gordsonville, 8-2, in Woodbury Tuesday (April 2).

Brian Duggin, Nick Vassar and Jake Todd led the Lions with two hits each. Vassar was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Todd was 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored. Duggin was 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Strang notched his first varsity win. He allowed one hit in the first and second innings. The only other base runner allowed was a fifth-inning walk. Otherwise, Strang was dominant as he mowed the Tigers’ lineup down in order through the middle innings.

Gordonsville took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. One of the runs was unearned.

Cannon County came back with one run in the bottom of the first when Chase Gunter singled and scored on Brian Duggin’s two-out hit.

The Lions scored five in the second to break the game open. Brent Duggin started the inning with a single and six straight Lions reached before Gordonsville could record an out. Todd drove in two runs, Vassar and Gunter each drove in one during the frame.

The Lions tacked on two in the third to secure the win.

* Cannon County dropped an 11-7 decision to MTCS Saturday (April 6).

Strang was 3-for-3 with one triple and two runs scored. Tucker Francis was 1-for-2 with a RBI double, and Brian Duggin was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Trent Bragg and Nathan McGuire also had hits for the Lions.

Cannon County fell behind 5-0 in the top of the first and had to battle from behind throughout.
