Storm claims life of Cannon Co. native

High winds are believed to be the cause of death of a Cannon County native.

Dwight Vinson, 64, of Milton died when a tree fell on him while riding an all terrain vehicle near his home in Milton.

The National Weather Service reported winds of nearly 70 miles per hour with the storm.

Earlier, as the storm entered Rutherford County, it left behind damage at Eagleville School. Framing for an under construction indoor baseball and softball hitting facility was all blown down.

Other scattered reports of downed trees were reported across the area. In addition to the high winds, there was some hail that reportedly covered the ground in some locations.

Dwight was a member of the Lascassas Baptist Church and the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam. He was retired from Alvin C. York Medical Center and was currently an auctioneer with Bob Parks Auction Co. and director of DTC Communications.

Dwight and his wife, Janice, have two sons and two grandsons and are members of Lascassas Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Lascassas Baptist Church with Bro. Kenneth Summey, Bro. Darrell Whaley and Bro. Teb Batey officiating.

Interment followed in the Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lascassas-Milton Lions Club, Lascassas Baptist Church Preschool or the Lascassas Fire Department.
