There will be a dedication ceremony on Friday, March 17, (St. Patrick's Day), at 11 a.m., at the site of the Historical Marker, on the east side of the Courthouse.

The Master of Ceremonies will be County Executive, Mike Gannon. The Guest Speakers will be: Dr. Carroll Van West, Ph.D, Tennessee State Historian; Robert Bush, Cannon County Historian; Senator Mae Beavers; Representative Mark Pody; Mayor Andy Duggin, Mayor of the City of Woodbury; David J. Faulkner, Commander, American Legion Post 279; Britt Knox, Chaplain, Hilton Stone American Legion Post 279; Colonel Jim Stone and Gregory Cutcliff, the Scottish Bag Piper.

This event is credited to a great lady from Cannon County. She is the daughter of the late Hayden Smith, Owner and Operator of the Cannon Courier for many years, and the late Lillian Smith Wallace. She had one sister, Sally Ann. They lived in the house on College Street now owned by Charlie and Dell Harrell.
In this yard some of the greatest ball games were played, and there was so much fun had in this yard, that even today when one rides past the beautiful white house, you can still hear the laughter of all of their wonderful friends who played in that yard.

A special thanks to the lady behind the Historical Marker telling how Stone's River got it's name, Nancy Smith Griner. Now, when you visit Woodbury and Cannon County, your grand children and their children will know how our river got it's name. All of the water in Cannon County flows out of the county, no water flows into the county, this is why the people of Cannon County are so special, because of all of this good, pure, fresh water.
