A local man is in hot water after allegedly shooting at vehicle full of people from his front yard.

James Allen Speed of Woodbury was arrested by Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputies after he reportedly fired at a truck full of people three times with a handgun.

The incident occurred on Houston Parker Road and, according to court documents, the altercation arose after Speed observed the vehicle driving recklessly on his road.

When officers arrived on the scene, Speed told them that he had shot bottle rockets in the air but that he had not fired a gun. When deputies searched Speed’s home, they found a gun which had recently been fired and three spent gun rounds.

After further investigation, officers located the truck and found that there was a bullet hole in the tailgate. The owner of the vehicle reported that his young children were in the back of the truck when the shooting took place.

Officers obtained warrants for Speed’s arrest and charged him with five counts of aggravated assault. Speed is currently being held in the Cannon County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond and will appear before General Sessions Judge Susan Melton on May 4th.

No one was injured during the incident.
