LIVINGSTON - Cannon County’s girls soccer team dropped its season opener, 9-2, at Livingston Academy.
The host Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead and made it stand.

There were highlights for the Lionettes, including multiple goals for newcomer Livia Walker and a strong outing in goal by a freshman.

Walker, a sophomore transfer from Warren County, accounted for both of Cannon County’s goals and had six shots on goal. Sophomore Caitlin Miller assisted one of Walker’s scores. Senior Macy Williams also had a shot on goal.

Freshman Raquel Novoa collected 12 saves in goal in her first high school match. Sophomore Sydney Elrod collected five saves for the Lionettes.

“Traveling to Livingston Academy for the first match is always tough but there were some positives,” Williams said. “We just have to keep improving and build on the positives.”

The Lionettes are at Jackson County Tuesday (Aug. 27).
