Smith County jumped out to an early lead and never allowed Cannon County to put together a rally in a 6-1 District 8-AA softball game in Woodbury.

The Lady Owls led 2-0 after one and scored all of their runs in the first four innings. Cannon County (12-9, 4-5) scored its only run in the fifth when Cheyenne Fann tripled and scored.

Macy Clements was 2-for-2 to lead the Lionettes at the plate. Clements had a double and stolen base.

Fann was 1-of-3 with a triple and run scored and Brianna Nichols was 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Kristen Hale suffered the loss on the mound. Hale went the distance and struck out seven. She walked one.

The Lionettes are scheduled to play host to DeKalb County Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in a District 8-AA contest.

The District 8-AA Tournament will be held at Upperman.
