Sheriff busts man with pot



Jeremy Scott Clayton, Dowelltown, was charged with simple possession of marijuana on Sept. 27 by Investigator Chris Brown of the Cannon County Sheriff's Department. On that date Brown was contacted by Sheriff Darrell Young via radio to assist him on a traffic stop at Mt. Ararat Church on Pea Ridge Road. Upon arrival Brown observed the driver, Clayton, was standing outside his vehicle speaking with Sheriff Young. Sheriff Young pulled a small baggie of marijuana out of his pocket and advised Brown that Clayton had it in his pocket and that he gave it to him upon Sheriff Young asking Clayton if there were any drugs in his vehicle. Clayton told Brown that he had not smoked marijuana in a long time and wanted some. He said he was told of a guy in Short Mountain on Big Hill Road that sold it, which is where he bought it from just prior to the traffic stop. Clayton said the bag contained about a quarter ounce of marijuana. Sheriff Young said he stopped the vehicle due to it crossing the center line into oncoming traffic twice. Clayton was issued a release citation. His initial court date is set for Nov. 7.

• Chelsea Smith, Woodbury, was arrested by the Cannon County Sheriff's Department on Sept. 25 on an active warrant charging her with manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of methamphetamine. During an incident at the Dollar General Market, 13.55 grams of methamphetamine were found concealed under the floor boarding of the trunk of a vehicle Smith has been known to drive. Following an investigation, charges were brought against Smith. She has been appointed an attorney in Cannon County General Session Court. Her next appearance is Oct. 31.

• Brandon S. Day, Celina, was charged with driving on a suspended license on Sept. 29 by Patrolman John House of the Woodbury Police Department following a traffic stop on John Bragg Highway. A release citation was issued. Initial court date is Oct. 10.

• Thomas Avent Muncy, Bradyville, was charged with public intoxication on Sept. 22 by Patrolman Jimmie Hayes of the Woodbury Police Department. Bond was set at $500. Initial court date is Nov. 14.

• Barbara Sullins reported to the Cannon County Sheriff's Department on Sept. 22 that her 2003 Ford Escape was stolen. The vehicle contain her wheelchair. The subject or subjects gain entry by breaking into the garage. Information about the stolen vehicle was entered into NCIC.

•.Sherry Gay made a report to the Cannon County Sheriff's Department on Sept. 21 about possible identity theft. Gay stated she received an email regarding charges made to her Itunes account that instructed her to to log into the email portal and enter her information. Gay stated she contacted her bank and Apple support and was informed the email was a scam. Gay said the email stated a charge of $399.99 and that was the reason she logged into the email to submit a cancel order for the charge. She said she was afraid her identity how now been stolen.

• The Cannon County Sheriff's Department recently took a theft complaint from Ed Schultz at 165 E. Main St. in Auburntown. Schultz reported metal products were removed from a bin outside of the business located at that address. Items included a metal work table and metal trays. Total loss was estimated at $6900.

• Jamie Lynn Kayser, Woodbury, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia on Sept. 20 by the Cannon County Sheriff's Department. Duties were dispatched to Auburntown Bridge on that date for a report of a parked vehicle. Kayser and John Hughes were found to be sleeping in the vehicle. They stated they had been kicked out of the place they had been staying. A broken glass pipe with residue and lighter marks on it and a scale were found during a search of the vehicle. A release citation was issued. Initial court date is Oct. 17.
