Welcome to 2013. May The Senior Center be your place in 2013 to meet new friends and create new memories. We want to congratulate Ms. Joy Pope on her Best of Show table “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” The tables were so beautiful and thank you to all the volunteers, hostesses and staff for making it a huge success.

National Pie Day
We are looking for pie bakers!!! January 23rd is National Pie Day! We are having our first Pie Baking Contest at the Senior Center. Any type of pie can be entered as long as it is homemade. We will have judges to pick our winners and prizes for first, second and third place. And then we can all enjoy the pies! Sign up with Sheila in the office by January 18th. Judging will start at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23rd.

Trivia Night on Saturday, January 12th!
Get your team together, 6 to a team, smart caps on, and join us for a night of fun, frolic and food on Saturday, January from 5:00 p.m. until ? Test your knowledge on 10 topics ranging from national events, sports, agriculture, music, science, popular media and more. BBQ dinner will served starting at 5:00 p.m. and the games begin at 6:00. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from Stevi or Sheila at the Center. The proceeds go to benefit the Senior Center.

Jewelry Making
Sing-a-Long
Would you be interested in making jewelry? How about a monthly Sing-a-Long? We are thinking about having these two events in the coming year. Let us know if you are interested. There is a sheet at the front desk for people to sign up if you are interested in joining either of these classes.

January 13-19 is National Week
Make sure you put Wednesday, January 16th on your calendar. We are having a pizza party starting at 11:30. The staff will provide cheese and pepperoni pizzas and other toppings in case you want to spice things up a bit! Desserts and/or donations from our members will be appreciated.

Silver Sneakers
Sarah Nokes, one of our Center members, has been certified in SilverSneakers MSROM! She will be starting a new MSROM class on Fridays at 8:30 in January! Thanks to Sarah we will now have classes every day of the week!

Low-Fat Express
Join Carla Bush on January 10, 17 and 24 for the “Low Fat Express” This great program will address today’s time pressed, convenience-insistent consumers who want simple, practical and relevant nutrition messages. This nutrition educational program delivers all that along with a healthy dose of fun while learning about portion sizes and meal planning along with taste testing!

Taco Soup
1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 can pinto beans, drained
1 can kidney beans, drained
1 can corn niblets, drained
1 can tomatoes, chopped
1 pkg. Hidden Valley dressing original mix
1 pkg. taco seasoning
Water or tomato juice as needed

Cook hamburger and saute onions. Drain. Add beans, corn, tomatoes, Hidden Valley dressing package and Taco mix. Add water or tomato juice to desired consistency. Cook 30 minutes. Top with shredded cheese. Great with cornbread!
