Senator Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet) has received the "Patriot Freedom Award" from the 7th and 8th District Tea Party Coalitions for "unwavering courage under fire." The award was presented to Beavers at the groups' meeting at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee on February 27, where nationally renowned Arizona Sheriff Richard Mack was the guest speaker.

Richard Archie, Chairman of the Tennessee 8th district Tea Party Coalition presented the award to Beavers, which said "for unwavering courage under fire from enemies of state sovereignty in elevated positions."

Sheriff Mack refused to enforce the Brady federal gun control act, launching the lawsuit which overturned part of the law due to its unconstitutionality. Mack is also outspoken proponent of state sovereignty which he says is the last defense against abuse of power by the federal government.

Mack asked the group of 300 gathered at the meeting, "If you have a chance to stand for liberty, will you do it?
"Congress has developed all these bureaucracies who now come up with policies and regulations that supersede the Constitution and supersede the Bill of Rights," said Mack. "The politicians of today have to tell you that it's a breathing a flexible document. Why do they have to tell you that? -- Because they are violating it every day. They have to get you to believe that what they are doing is ok instead of against the law."

"I appreciate this recognition and pledge to continue my support for protecting state sovereignty and upholding the U.S. Constitution," said Senator Beavers. "I am pleased to join with Sheriff Mack and other conservatives to fight for these principles upon which this country was founded."

Senator Beavers is a Republican lawmaker representing Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith, and Wilson Counties in the State Senate. She served eight years in the State House of Representatives before being elected to the State Senate, where she has served for the past twelve years.
