Search For Pope Leads To Charges Against Roller

A strange turn of events led to theft and drug charges being filed against a local man on March 16 by the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies Brandon Gullett and Mike Smith went to 2254 Osment Rd. on that date to in search of Ashley Pope, who has an outstanding warrant for her arrest for stolen property.

While at the residence they made contact with Jamie Roller, who said Pope had been there but was not there now. Roller gave permission to search the residence for Pope when requested to do so by Deputy Smith.

While inside, Deputy Smith observed a sink and toilet, which appeared to be items reportedly stolen from a residence on Barrett Road on Feb. 22. The address on Barrett Rd. is less than a mile from Roller’s residence.

When asked about the sink, Roller said he bought it from a man named Gary and that he didn’t have any way to prove ownership.

While in the living room of Roller’s residence, Deputy Gullett observed a glass pipe which was burnt on the ends lying on the table beside a recliner. The deputy picked up the pipe to get a better look at it, and then looked at Roller. Roller said he had forgotten the pipe was sitting there and that if he had remembered he would have moved it.

Deputy Gullett then had Roller sign a consent to search form and advised him of his Miranda rights. The deputy searched the living room and found a pill bottle containing marijuana seeds and several items commonly identified as drug paraphernalia, including several glass pipes, a glass vile with white residue, straws, a syringe and several plastic baggies. A search of other areas of the house uncovered a bag of marijuana and digital scales, and several other items allegedly stolen from the Barrett Rd. residence.

Roller was charged with Theft Over $500, Simple Possession Of Schedule VI Drugs and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia. Initial court date is May 1.

The owner of the property allegedly stolen from the Barrett Rd. residence recovered the items at sheriff’s department.
