Run the Cumberland approaching

Staff

Runners have plenty to cheer about as the racing season approaches with a unique opportunity to Run the Cumberland!

A collaborative effort, the upcoming Run the Cumberland includes three different races held by three different organizations. Runners participating in all three will receive a special medal at the end (and bragging rights!). “Run the Cumberland was such a popular series a few years ago,” says Upper Cumberland Haunted Half organizer Tracy Epps. “So we wanted to bring it back, and make it bigger and better than ever. We’re happy to offer an extra incentive for people to get out there and participate in these community runs!”

Participants can get started on August 8 with the After Dark Committee’s 7th Annual Race for the Park 8K (ages 13 and up, beginning at 8:08 p.m.) and the Kids for the Park 1 Mile Fun Run (ages 4-12, beginning at 7:30 p.m.). Organized by Abby Williams, all proceeds from the race will benefit Dogwood Park. Registration costs $35 for the adult race and there is no fee for the kids’ race. Next up is City Scape’s Fall FunFest FunRun on September 6. The race starts at 7 a.m. and features seven age categories. Prizes include $100 cash for men’s and women’s overall first place winners, as well as Foothills Running Company gift cards for overall second ($75) and third place ($50) winners. Spearheaded by Jackie Duncan, the Fall FunFest FunRun costs $30 if participants register by August 25 and $40 after that date. Rounding out the Run the Cumberland is WCTE’s Upper Cumberland Haunted Half on October 18. Participants 14 years or older by race day can enter either individually or as members of a three-person relay team. If registering by August 1, the fee is $45. Registration until October 15 is $55 and same-day registration is $60. All runners will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag, and those finishing the half marathon will also win a finisher’s medal. If registering before October 16, runners have the option of purchasing a ticket to WCTE’s Blues & Brews Craft Beer Festival (happening after the race at Dogwood Park) at a $10 discount.
