Ruby Ellen Jernigan Thompson



Ruby Ellen Jernigan Thompson, who would have celebrated her 99th birthday on March 8, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2012, at Stones River Medical Center. Mrs. Thompson resided in the Gum Community from 1947 until she relocated to the Holiday House in Woodbury last January. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Yeargan Thompson, in 1968, and her parents, Luke E. Jernigan and Mary Elizabeth Robinson Jernigan of Beech Grove, TN. She is survived by two children, Bruce Thompson, Jr., of Bell Buckle, TN, and Sybil Bowen of Woodbury, TN. Mrs. Thompson had five grandchildren, Teresa Long, Terry Thompson, Connie Sullins, Cynthia (Terry) Brewer, and Ashley Bowen; eight great-children; and eight great-great children. One of eight siblings, she is survived by her youngest sister, Elizabeth Burks, of Beech Grove, TN.

Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker, going to work outside the home after the death of her husband, and retiring from White Stag Manufacturing. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Visitation will be with the family on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 4 pm until 8 pm. Services will be conducted by Pastor Jimmy Jernigan and Reverend Hunter Hay on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 11 am, in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home and music will be provided by Claire and Rhett Brewer, great-grandchildren of Mrs. Thompson. Her burial will be beside her husband in Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro.

Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, James R. Jernigan, James Willis Jernigan, and Maurice Boyd Jernigan. Active pallbearers will be Larry Dale Jernigan, Michael Wayne Jernigan, Zane Carroll, Patrick Carroll, Danny Smith, Michael Morjal, John O'Kain, and Hunter Taylor
