Republicans outvote Democrats by 2-1 margin in District 17 Special Election primaries

The outcome of the primaries for the Special Election to fill the state Senate District 17 seat would seem to bode well for Mark Pody.
Pody, who is the current House District 46 representative, won the Republican primary on Tuesday, according to results submitted to Tennessee Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins by county election commissioners.

Pody garnered 2,562 votes as he attempts to win the seat vacated by Mae Beavers, who is running for governor in next year's election.

The Democratic Primary was won by political newcomer Mary Alice Carfi.

There was only one candidate running in both primaries.

Carfi and Pody will now move on to the Special Election, which will be held Dec. 19.

In Cannon County, Pody received 188 votes during the primary, while Carfi collected 60.

The results of the other five counties which comprise District 17 were:

Clay: Pody 93, Carfi 44

DeKalb: Pody 172, Carfi 111

Macon: Pody 168, Carfi 54

Smith: Pody 300, Carfi 187

Wilson: Pody 1,641, Carfi 827

Early voting for the Dec. 19 Special Election between Carfi and Pody will be held from November 29th until December 14th.
