Relay For Life Adds Cooking For A Cure To Event

The pottery students at Cannon County High School will be hosting a “Bowl” supper at this year’s Relay for Life event on Friday, May 21st to help raise money for cancer awareness in Cannon County and the American Cancer Society. The students have all made bowls (and cups) to be used at this event. Every ticket holder will be entitled to their choice of a handmade bowl or cup in which their meal or drinks will be served.

Instead of the traditional chili supper, the students decided to try something different and get more of the community involved. We are asking area restaurants, businesses, churches, and individuals to compete in a community “tasting” – each participant will set up with a crock pot (or two) of their best dish that can be served in a bowl. Customers or ticket holders will be allowed to sample each contestants fare so that they will be able to choose their favorite. They will then redeem their ticket for a full bowl of the chosen best. Bread and drinks will be provided to complete the meal. The participant with the most redeemed tickets will be proclaimed the “COOKING FOR A CURE” winner and pictures and a press release will be sent to the Courier, WBRY and the Cannon Wire.

Students will be coming by to ask for your participation. We’re hoping to sign up as many local groups and/or individuals as we can. Students will be also looking for donations of other kinds to help make this event a success. Whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated. Pottery students are also planning to set up a children’s activity area where children (or adults) will be able to paint and glaze their own ceramic piece along with other activities, as well as high school entertainment and two relay teams who will walk throughout the event.
