Patrick: Auburntown News
Tuesday, June 16, 2015 4:40 pm By ANNA PATRICK It's been a busy week around here. First, Prosperity Baptist Church ended their 2015 Vacation Bible School on Thursday night. There was a great attendance and one of the best results for VBS. Auburn Church of Christ is currently going on this beginning each night at 6:00. Robert and Wytona Lester took mom, Hallean Tate on another big trip. They flew out Friday May 29th to return Saturday, June 6th. The 3 landed in Oregon where they rented a car and toured the beautiful Columbia Gorge and Crater Lake. They travelled thru the Red Wood Forest in California, went 2 miles underground touring the Sea Lion Cove and then up to Washington by way of 101 shoreline to re-enter Oregon. Friday we were all off to Nashville to help Jewell find her another car since hers had been declared "totaled" following the wreck she was involved in recently. Although still somewhat sore, she is improving. Saturday we were up and running to enjoy the 4th five year reunion of Auburn School. There were lots of "regulars" (those who have attended each year) but there were also several "new" ones to come in and enjoy getting caught up on each other's life. There were lots of hugs and laughter. Although this was not entirely for graduates, there were 3classes which had 6 members present - 1958, 1960 and 1964. The next get together will be 2020 - see you then!! Maggie and Alan Hale are expecting a little boy. At her 20-week ultrasound, the baby was diagnosed with myelomeningocele or spina bifida. This is a neural tube defect in which the bones of the spine do not completely form resulting in an incomplete spinal canal which in turn causes the spinal cord, nerves and spinal fluid to be in a sac on the baby's back. Vanderbilt was consulted and the good news little "Westin" is a candidate for surgical intervention but the bad is she and Alan have to give up their jobs and move to the Nashville area. This, of course, puts a financial burden on the family. The operation alone is around $8,000. A "gofundme" (go fund me) Facebook site has been set up for financial help. The Auburntown Historical Society meets at the Auburn Church of Christ Fellowship Hall this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The speaker at the Auburntown Historical Society June meeting will be Greg Tucker and his wife Mish-Triet. Greg is a historian, columnist for the Daily News The Auburn High School Book will be for sale at Red Apple Days in Auburntown. The cost is $50.00 per book or if mailed, the cost is $56.00. And those days will be here before you know it. Sunday, June 21st is Father's Day. Prosperity Baptist Church is recognizing all fathers present that day with a special program. The Gore family, Michael and Stacy, are bringing special music and testimonies - those of being addicts, thieves, etc. - during the Morning Worship Service at 11:00. Everyone is invited.
